Hello, and welcome to the Culture Class- Holidays in Kenya Series at SwahiliPod101.com. In this series, we’re exploring the traditions behind Kenyan holidays and observances. I’m Eric, and you're listening to Season 1, Lesson 25. Kenya International Trade Exhibition. In Swahili, it’s called Sikukuu ya kimataifa ya maonyesho ya biashara Kenya.
The Kenya International Trade Exhibition, held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, is organized at a different time each year. It is always sure to last three days, spanning from a Friday to the following Sunday. This exhibition provides both local and international organizations with an opportunity to increase their name recognition among consumers, and also to boost their respective business prospects.
In this lesson, we will learn about how this event serves to promote businesses in Kenya.
Now, before we get into more detail, do you know the answer to this question-
What kind of products are usually abundant during this exhibition?
If you don't already know, you’ll find out a bit later. Keep listening.
The Kenya International Trade Exhibition aims to bring together multi-sector products, in Swahili called bidhaa za sekta nyingi tofauti. As the East African market is home to many different types of equipment and machines, this event invites 150 exhibitors from around 30 countries and around 12,000 visitors from all over the world to showcase their products in an area encompassing approximately 300 square meters.
Exhibitors are divided into four different categories, FOODAGRO, PPPEXPO, INDUSMACH and MEDEXPO. FOODAGRO covers the food, hotel and agricultural sectors, PPPEXPO covers the packaging and plastics sectors, INDUSMACH covers the industrial and commercial sectors, and finally MEDEX covers the medical and pharmaceuticals sectors.
After the end of the exhibition in each category, a get together is held to give exhibitors a chance to interact with their counterparts who have come from different countries to see the various products. More than anything, the event aims to help businesses create lasting business relations, in Swahili called ushirikiano wa kudumu wa biashara, allowing those who attend to exchange contacts and phone numbers, and at the same time allowing those who lack significant experience in their fields to seek the advice of specialists.
Now it's time to answer our quiz question-
What kind of products are usually abundant during this exhibition?
The event showcases products from many different industries, including electronic products, or bidhaa za stima, construction products, or bidhaa za kujenga, textiles, technologies, and medicines.
So listeners, how was this lesson? Did you learn something interesting?
Does your country have any kind of business exhibition similar to this?
Leave us a comment telling us at SwahiliPod101.com, and we'll see you in the next series! Thanks for listening!
